Working and living in the UAE
"The center of now". A country that is younger than fifty years old. An infrastructure that is second to none. Never ending growth. Visionary leadership. These are all statements that come to mind when thinking about the UAE and Dubai. They are all true. However, Dubai is more than this. Dubai is safe, it has a mature and sensible labour law, coherent legal practices and most importantly - opportunity. Never has the phrase “work hard, play hard” been so true. People come here from all over the world to work and live, and as a result everyone can find their place.
The weather can be challenging, from October through to April it is almost perfect, neither too hot, nor too cold. Great for walks along the beach or camping in the desert. The rest of the year is hotter! It's not unusual to have temperatures in excess of 40 degrees combined with high humidity. Luckily we have air-conditioned cars, offices and shopping malls.
Housing is plentiful and there are options to suite everyone's pocket. A quick search on the web will reveal a host of excellent sites that will help you to find your new home. New cars are cheap and there is a huge second hand market, Initiatives around e-government and the great work performed by the utility providers ensure a simple and hassle free living
Culturally Dubai is quite liberal. As long as you respect the local traditions and requests (i.e. modest dress in public areas and no public eating or drinking in Ramadan), it feels like any other cosmopolitan city. Indeed the buzz about Dubai gives it the feel of cities such as London, New York, Paris, Singapore and Hong Kong.
